September and October, 2010

Once again, life got in the way and it's been awhile since we've posted new pictures.

Aidan started preschool in September. He attends school two afternoons a week and absolutely loves it! He comes home with lots pictures and projects, and he enjoys telling us about all the new things he has learned. Aidan turned 4 on October 9. He celebrated by going to his first movie in a movie theater and spending some time at the Children's Museum. Aidan loves playing with his trains and reading books.

Alex is very independent and loves to show us what he can do all by himself--which is quite a lot! He has done very well with potty training and now only wears a diaper at night. Alex says new things to us everyday and it is obvious that he is enjoying learning more and more about the world around him. He can now identify most letters by sight and tell what sounds most of the letters make. Alex still loves dinosaurs, but he also loves to play with cars and trains.

Zachary turned 6 months on October 30. We're amazed that he has already taught himself how to crawl and sit. Gone are the days of putting him down on the floor and expecting him to stay there! Zachary has even pulled himself up onto his feet a couple of times. He loves to explore, suck on toys and other objects, and laugh at his brothers. Zachary started to eat rice cereal and vegetables shortly before his 6 month birthday, and seems to be enjoying this new addition to his diet. He is a happy, cuddly baby and we can't believe he has already (and only) been part of our family for 6 months!

A Summer's Worth of Pictures

Yes, we're still here! It's been a very busy summer and now that school has officially started, I thought it was high time to get some pictures out here for your enjoyment.

Amazingly, Zachary is already four months old. That hardly seems possible. He is quite the happy little guy and he brings us so much joy with his constant smiles, coos, and squeals. He rolled over both ways very early (front to back at 2 months, back to front at 3 months) and even scoots himself around a little. We are loving getting to know this little guy and his unique personality. He is definitely a cuddler, which suits us just fine. He is a great sleeper and is usually content to just watch his older brothers, who both adore him.

Our former baby, Alex, has definitely grown up this summer. He turned 2 at the beginning of June and it is so fun to be able to communicate more and more with him. He is one smart cookie! Alex has developed a love of dinosaurs and can name many of them correctly, which is just amazing to us. He still loves to do puzzles, line things up, and play with his stuffed animals. We're not sure where Alex learned half the things he knows, but we are very proud of him. The newest adventure with Alex has been potty training, and he is doing quite well with it. Here's hoping that continues.

Aidan is almost 4 years old. He kept busy this summer with swimming lessons, a sports camp, and a preschool camp. Aidan learned how to ride his bike by himself (with training wheels) and swim by himself (with a life jacket). He still loves to sing, dance, and ask questions. Aidan is excited to start preschool this week. It's amazing to us that he's that old already!

We moved into our new house in July and have been very busy painting and doing projects in and outside of the house. It was very nice to unpack and have our things back. We are definitely enjoying having more space! Look for some house pictures soon!

We enjoyed lots of time with extended family this summer as well. Grandma Annell and Grandpa Matt visited in June, we spent a weekend with the Lenius Family in Two Harbors in August, and Granddad Nick, Libby, Aunt Elizabeth, and cousin Fiona visited in August. All three boys enjoyed time with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins!

One Month Old

Zachary turned one month old today! It's hard to believe that it has already been a month since he was born, but also hard to remember what life was like without him. He is a very happy baby and puts up with a lot of love from his older brothers. We are treasuring every moment with him and our family of five! Below are a few pictures to round out Zachary's first month.

Zachary Allen

We are thrilled to introduce the newest member of our family, Zachary Allen. He was born on Friday, April 30 at 3:24 p.m. He weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces and was 20 inches long. We were very happy to welcome him to the world after a difficult month or so for Becky. Aidan and Alex love their little brother very much, and it's hard to remember what life was like before Zachary was born. He is a perfect baby in every way, and we feel so blessed to have him as part of our family.

We are thankful that Zachary came when he did, 12 days before his due date. He was able to meet his Great Grandma when he was 5 days old, a few days before she died. We thank God for allowing their paths to cross for a little while, and find comfort in the fact that she is home with her Savior now.

Enjoy the many pictures from Zachary's first three weeks of life!

January-March, 2010

Yes, it's been awhile! We've had a very busy couple of months and haven't had much free time to update this blog. So while these pictures are a little out of date, hopefully they will show a few of the things we've been up to. In January, Becky and Alex took a trip to Boston with Grandma Gwen to visit Aunt Angie, Uncle Tom, and Cousin James. Alex enjoyed having someone other than his brother to play with for a few days, and Becky enjoyed her prenatal massage and pedicure. We also said goodbye to our first house, where we had lived for a little over four years. It's amazing how much stuff we accumulated during that time! In the midst of packing up, we picked out our new house. Becky is excited about the granite countertops, master bathroom and closets, and pond in the backyard. Nickie is excited about the third garage stall, ledger board, and sprinkler system. Since our house won't be done until early July, we moved into Becky's parents' basement. It has been very convenient to be there and the boys certainly love being able to see Grandma and Grandpa whenever they feel like it. Also in January, Nickie graduated from St. Mary's University with his Master of Arts in Education degree. It is so nice to have our Wednesday nights free once again! In March, we sadly said goodbye to our Ford Escape and purchased a Dodge Caravan. All three boys love the new minivan; Becky is still getting used to it. It is nice to have the extra space, which will be needed very soon as we anxiously await the arrival of our baby boy.

Both boys continue to grow and change almost daily. Alex seems to learn new words every day. He knows his colors, can count, and can identify several letters of the alphabet. He loves doing puzzles, taking care of his stuffed animals, and wearing his crocs. Alex started sleeping in a big boy bed when we moved and doesn't miss his crib at all. Aidan continues to amaze us with his questions and observations. He has become quite the negotiator and can get almost anyone to go along with almost anything he says. He has learned how to add and subtract using his fingers and loves doing "math." He is also quite the speller and loves sounding out words. Both boys are very good helpers and have adjusted to all of the changes of the last few months seamlessly.

November and December, 2009

Once again, our lives have been busy and we've neglected to post pictures on this blog. I could say we'll do better in the new year, but I doubt that will actually be the case. Please forgive the delay!

Both boys continue to grow both physically and intellectually before our very eyes. Aidan has started to remember his dreams in the past couple of months, or at least begin to tell us about them. It is fascinating to hear him describe in detail what he dreams about. He continues to love to dance and sing, and continues to come up with words and expressions that, we think, are far beyond his years. He is becoming quite the negotiator when it comes to getting what he wants.

Alex loves playing with and learning from his big brother. He seems to copy everything Aidan does, and it is fun to watch the two of them play together. Alex's vocabulary is also increasing, and he certainly knows how to get what he wants as well. He has nicknamed himself "Al" and Aidan "A," and is very concerned when "A" isn't around.

December was a very exciting month for us. We got the news right before Christmas that we will be having another baby boy. We are all thrilled to welcome this newest member to our family in early May! Both Aidan and Alex love to kiss and hug their little brother, and Aidan is a great interpreter for us...what the baby is saying, what the baby wants, and what the baby is doing (which is usually sleeping!). In other news, we found out shortly after Christmas that we sold our house (finally!), which had been on the market for close to 11 months. We will move to Becky's parents' house at the end of January and stay there until our new house is completed this summer. We've had to make a lot of big decisions quickly, but we are very happy with what our new house will be and excited to begin this next stage in our lives.

We hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and wish you all many blessings in the new year.
